Refinish Cedar Shutters!
Refinish Cedar Shutters…
Since the weather has been so nice lately, I thought this would be a great time to do some much needed maintenance on some outside items. At the top of that list is my board and batten cedar shutters. It has been 3 years since they were stained and installed, and they are really begging for some attention. So, I thought I would quickly go over how I refinish cedar shutters and keep them looking good.
Refinished Cabinets – Before and Afters
If you take a look around the internet, you will see that there are a lot (and I mean A LOT) of people showcasing their DIY refinished cabinets. Seems like everyone has gotten on board with this do it yourself project. I’ve done several refinish jobs myself over the years. In fact, I am in the process of redoing my laundry room right now. (Coming soon).
Because of that, I wanted to discuss just a bit the process for getting a quality job. Plus, I wanted to show some well done before and afters of several refinished cabinets that followed all of the correct steps.
Paint it Black! – Black Painted Rooms
“I see a red door and I want to paint it black…..” Every time I see black painted rooms, it makes me think of that song. Just like the Rolling Stones, black will never go out of style. However, it is not a color that works for everybody, but when it does, black painted rooms can be quite spectacular.
Update with a Metallic Finish.
Old pieces can look fresh and new again with just a little paint and effort, and can even create a set from previously unrelated pieces. Just take a look at this cabinet and oil painting that was headed for the attic. The painting was one of my favorites, but although the previous gold, accented, frame worked nicely with my old paint scheme, it was really clashing with my current gray tones.
The cabinet, before this makeover, had a disjointed look to it. It looked as if it couldn’t make up its mind on which style it wanted to be – farmhouse or modern. The cabinet itself was a simple wooden frame with tin inserts in the door and sides. The frame was black (good for me) and the tin inserts were painted yellow with rust-red accenting.
