The farmhouse chic design style has become very popular over the past few years – mostly thanks to HGTV’s Fixer Upper. However, down here in the south, we have been loving the farmhouse chic design style much longer. You might call this a staple design for those of us in the heart of the bible belt. But now, with this style spreading like wildfire, I have been receiving so many requests for information – how to do it, where to buy the decor, etc – that I am finally caving in and giving you what you want. With that in mind, I have rounded up some inspirational rooms along with the products that are essential in achieving these looks.

Farmhouse Chic Design Style…
(Photo by Dillon Kyle Architects (DKA))
The decor for farmhouse chic is sometimes referred to as rustic and refined. One of the biggest factors in acquiring a farmhouse chic design style is to properly mix textures and finishes. Giving outdoor elements, such as barn doors or wicker furniture, a new refined finish is common for this look.
Shiplap or planked walls are also a classic element for the farmhouse look – another decorating style made popular by the Fixer Upper. I am also loving the doubled rugs – rough texture covered with something soft. (FYI – if you have pets, be sure to check out my suggestions on pet friendly rugs).
When it comes to the textures used for farmhouse chic, the way to go is old layered with new. Think rustic floors combined with iron. Add in the shiplap and x/z doors, and finish those out in a sophisticated fresh paint.

Look for wooden pieces that have that reclaimed finish, and add some modern decor pieces. I love this idea of using a drop leaf round table as a console. The wicker chairs are softened up with a cushy seat cushion and a decorative pillow. And to make things easier for everyone, I have created these great mood boards to allow you to recreate these looks.

Final Thoughts…
Last but certainly not least, and because I know you were going to ask, here is my mood board for paints. I have recreated choices from both the images above and from Magnolia’s Market new colors used by Joanna Gaines, using choices from Sherwin Williams.
