Legos are a great way to provide creative play for children (and adults). ;-) But, did you know that they can provide a terrific theme to design a room around. I bet if you have children, you do. I also bet that many of you young at heart, and very artistic minded folks, have already thought of some fabulous lego room ideas. But, for those of you looking for some inspiration, or just interested in others’ ideas, check out these very colorful and creative lego room ideas.
Lego Room Ideas-Storage & Play
For sure, if you are into legos as a hobby, you will want some place to store them. Converting a cabinet into storage space can be a good solution. To achieve this look, several shallow drawers have been installed inside this cabinet. In addition, storage shelves have been mounted to the inside of the doors. This is a nice way to create separate compartments for sorting your lego bricks.
Here a very serious builder has created a building station with many different storage areas. The white drawers can be rolled around to different locations, and rolled back beneath the countertop for easy storage.

For younger lego fans, mounting baseplates to a wall is a great idea. Not only does it provide a creative zone when floor space is limited, it also is a fascinating concept to children. They seem to be amazed when they see a wall lego display.
But, don’t feel limited to just the walls. Lego ceilings can also make an awe inspiring room for kids. In the image above, HGTV’s cousins (from America’s Most Desperate Kitchens) have covered both the walls and the ceilings of this children’s cancer foundation with white baseplates.
Children’s Lego Room Ideas…
Since there are so many children out there that would love a Lego bedroom, I thought we could go over some aspects that can help you to create a Lego dream room. Starting with the colors – Lego rooms will obviously need to be done in primary colors (red, green, yellow, and blue).

Now the trick is to take those colors and turn them into something really cool. One easy way to create Lego decor is to paint a dresser or chest in one of the primary colors and replace the old knobs/pulls with flat round pulls in matching colors.

Consider turning doors into Lego bricks by using the same method. If you will look closely at the image above, you can see how the actual pull can be made from 2 different sized sections of round wood. While, the other decorative studs (those round nubby pieces) can be made from one single piece.

Anyplace that you have drawers, or that you can add drawers, consider turning that into a lego brick as well. In fact, if you just take a good look at what you have and evaluate it to determine where all the square or rectangular shapes are in the room, you can use that to figure out where you can create a brick.
If you are not so keen on painting furniture or doing woodwork, why not let the lego expert in your family create a nice headboard. It pretty simple to do. Just make sure to glue the pieces together if you want it to last. Also, keep in mind that this is for decorative purposes only and shouldn’t be used to provide support to the bed.
Creating Lego Decor…

Lego storage boxes can be used for decor as well as a means to store all of those tiny pieces. Spread a few around a room and turn them into storage for other things. I like to use them to store out of season clothes and shoes for young children.

This, I thought, was simply to cute to ignore. I have tried to find out where something like this could be easily purchased, but I was unable to find something that I felt looked this nice. However, if you understand how to do the wiring for a ceiling fixture, you can probably create something similar to this. At any rate, I thought this would be a good inspiration for some of the more die hard DIYers out there.

Keep in mind that Lego decor doesn’t have to be restricted to the kids rooms. Take a hint from this homeowner, who made a very colorful utensil storage block.

And here, this homeowner really didn’t have the space to give there child a lego work center. But, not to be foiled, the designer decided to turn this wall partition (located in the kitchen) into a lego wall. It is a nice twist on the old standard refrigerator magnets that most of us remember playing with. It also is a good alternative to a chalkboard.
